Geekin' Out: Newly Released Spanish Poster for "The Spirit" Kicks the Ass of the Actual Film

Geekin' Out - Header

Everyone may have already forgotten the film after it was released to dismal reviews and a weak box office intake last month, but The Spirit has still somehow managed to continue its streak of creative and beautifully designed poster artwork (following such subtle but effective works such as this 3-part series).

Click the poster for the high res version.

The only explanation I can see for the studios not using this as the main poster for the film's US marketing is because it wasn't reminiscent enough of Sin City, unlike the noticeably more red-and-black posters that they ended up going with. Were the actual film remotely as good as this poster, I might even be upset that something so gorgeous and clearly deserving of its potential wall-hanging status has gone mostly unseen and completely underutilized.

Beyond the fact that it's just a slickly rendered and well-compositited design, I particularly love how the poster evokes a strong sense of old-school/classical appeal, much like what was done with the one-sheet for The Good German.
