Darren Aronofsky in Talks to Direct "Robocop"; "Red Dawn" Gets a Writer/Director - Good News, or Still Bad?

Robocop - Teaser Poster
Do we really need remakes of Robocop and Red Dawn? No, but that's not stopping MGM from continuing forth with the projects anyway.

First it was announced that screenwriter Carl Ellsworth (Red Eye, Disturbia) and director Dan Bradley (a second unit director and/or stunt coordinator on The Bourne Ultimatum, Spider-Man 3, and Quantum of Solace) would be tackling the Dawn remake, while hidden within the confines of the text it was revealed that Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain) was currently in talks (among others) to direct the big-budget new take on Robocop.

Red Dawn - DVD Cover
I don't so much mind the Red Dawn news, as the first film is so silly already that it's not like the film will taint the name of the original if it turns out to be awful. (For those who don't know, the film's about a group of high schoolers who band together during the outbreak of World War III to fight back against Soviet invaders.)

This Robocop remake, however, still has me worried. Granted, it is comforting to know they're looking at directors like Aronofsky, a filmmaker who has the artistic sensibilities required to turn something like a Robocop remake into a movie that doesn't feel utterly pointless, but until I see an official announcement on that, I refuse to get my hopes up.

Robocop

I'm excited to see how Aronofsky will do RoboCop. And I just ready on Bloody-Disgusting that RoboCop will be a sequel. That's good since remaking the original wouldn't come close, best to just reboot the series.
