Six Brand Spankin' New Pics from J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek"!

Star Trek - EW Cover
A quick glance at this week's Entertainment Weekly cover reveals that Friday will be an exciting day for Star Trek fans, as there's promise of new pics and set visit info. But why wait until then for your Trekkie fix?

Six very cool new photos from the film have spawned across the interwebs today, each offering one sigh of relief after another as it becomes readily apparent that J.J. Abrams may have really pulled this one off. That may be a little preemptive considering we haven't even seen a trailer yet, but from the looks of it, the movie's going to remain faithful to the style and characters of the show while also applying the necessary updates and alterations to make it into its own unique entity. It also helps that Kevin Smith and Edgar Wright have both seen the movie and not-so-subtly hinted at its greatness.

From UGO comes this shot of the Enterprise crew, featuring (from left to right): Anton Yelchin as Chekov, Chris Pine as James T. Kirk, Simon Pegg as Lt. Montgomery Scott, Karl Urban as Dr. McCoy, John Cho as Sulu and Zoe Saldana as Uhura.

From AICN comes this shot of Spock apparently using the Vulcan Death Grip. Was Heroes' Zachary Quinto perfectly cast or what?

From MTV comes another shot of the Enterprise crew, this time showing a little bit more of the Bridge.

From IGN comes this shot of Kirk climbing out of a ship or escape pod or what-have-you, clearly having landed in an arctic landscape.

From JoBlo comes this look at the villainous Nero, played by Eric Bana.

From TrekMovie comes an effects shot of a ship in battle.

My gut tells me these pics are actual shots from the trailer. Guess we'll have to wait to see it before showings of Quantum of Solace until we'll know for sure.

Check back later in the week when the new Entertainment Weekly is released, as I expect there's going to be some exclusive material that's of interest.

Star Trek is set to be released in theaters May 8, 2009.
